Our Story
Hold The Bread Foundation™ is the passion project of Gonca, Arzu, and Fusun Esendemir, co-founders of the Flatbread Grill® Mediterranean restaurant concept and creators of Thumb Bread®, an extraordinary artisanal bread. The sisters, who are children of immigrants, grew up in poverty. They have over the years given back to the local communities by offering in-kind food donations, gift certificates, educational workshops, and offering mentorships. Hold The Bread Foundation is a way for them to combine all of their charitable contributions and philanthropic efforts under one umbrella while continuing to serve communities.
Flatbread Grill®
The sisters started Flatbread Grill® in 2007 when their father was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and Fusun, the eldest, was laid off from her corporate job. The restaurant was a means for the sisters to afford health insurance so their father could have open-heart surgery and lifelong care. Thumb Bread®
Thumb Bread® is an extraordinary bread created in 2007 by the sisters to serve in their fast casual restaurant concept. They mixed, scaled, divided, rounded, and formed millions of pieces completely by hand before transitioning the brand into a consumer packaged goods product, now available at select retail stores, including ShopRite.
